Is There Really “More to Love”

I just briefly saw a commercial for Fox’s new reality dating series, “More to Love.” The show features real-sized women, most being plus-sized, competing for the chance to fall in love with a “single average guy with a big waist and an even bigger heart.” Is there something a little creepy about this? Why are the plus-sized women the only possibilities for the “average guy?” Why is this the first dating show where the women deviate from the standard model-thin beauty, Emme’s fabulous career aside? On first glance, this seems troublesome, as though both men and women aren’t attracted to all kinds of body types. Maybe its good to expand the notion of beauty on television, but the fact that a separate show has to be created just for larger people seems to diminish the entire point.
